Fashion Design to Fight the Good Fight
Last Saturday’s Christ Centered Career Group at my church featured the Top 10 Tips for Best Ever Networking. It began with instructions to…
Put on the full armor of God …
…with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:11; 14-17
Picking the right clothes for networking and interviewing is key in making good first impressions. But even more important is putting on spiritual “underwear.”
In order to visualize dressing for success spiritually, everyone in our career group drew a picture of themselves wearing the full armor of God…
- Belt of Truth
- Breastplate of Righteousness
- Shoes of Gospel Peace
- Shield of Faith
- Helmet of Salvation
- Sword of the Spirit
Then we all shared our pictures and how the various pieces of armor could help us at work, in job search and with career development. Our meeting got off to a great start.
Prepare for Today
Many of us face days filled with struggles in our jobs and careers. It’s as if we are fighting a sometimes invisible enemy who stirs up fear and anger within us. You can begin by realizing that…
…our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
May I suggest that you draw a picture of yourself wearing the full armor of God?
You can download and print a copy of our Dress for Success devotional, or you can simply grab a piece of paper. Your picture does not have to be pretty. Stick figure drawings are fine. You don’t have to show it to anyone, but we found it fun to share the answer to “How will the armor of God will help me to stand firm?”
You can post your picture where you will see it while you get dressed every day.
Remember! Spiritual “underwear” is more important than physical outerwear. Put on the full armor of God … don’t leave home without it!
Wait! There’s More…
You will find our Dress for Success devotional on page 61 of our Crossroads Career workbook, which is filled with spiritual and practical devotionals and exercises.
